Thomas M. Stevens
Thomas M. Stevens, a Realtor from Vienna, Virginia, is the 2006 President of the National Association of Realtors. Known as “The Voice for Real Estate”, the National Association of Realtors is America’s largest trade association, comprised of more than 1.2 million members representing all aspects of residential and commercial real estate. Mr. Stevens also served in elected leadership positions as the Association’s President Elect in 2005 and First Vice President in 2004. Preceding this time he was Vice President and Liaison to Government Affairs of the National Association of Realtors, a position which coordinates the activities of the Government and Political Relations Committees within the Association.

Stevens, a Realtor since 1972, is the former owner of Coldwell Banker Stevens, a full service real estate firm serving Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia with 40 offices and more than 2,000 associates in the mid-Atlantic region. He is currently a Senior Vice President of NRT, Incorporated, a well respected name within the real estate industry. Tom holds the professional designations of Graduate Realtors Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Broker (CRB) and Certified Residential Specialist (CRS).

As a 34 year career veteran in the real estate business, Stevens has filled leadership roles and served on numerous committees at the local and state levels of Realtor organizations prior to his current position at the national level. He was recognized as Realtor of the Year by his colleagues in 1986 and 1991 and is a recipient of the Realtors Distinguished Service Award, an honor bestowed in 1978. He is recognized as a tireless advocate for homeownership rights and affordability. As President of the National Association of Realtors, Stevens has testified before Congress on behalf of its members on numerous occasions.
In addition to his day-to-day endeavors in the business of real estate as well as his service to the National Association of Realtors, Tom Stevens is active in the development of real estate projects across the country. He has partnered with Valley Development in the land acquisition and community development stage with the goal of creating affordable and appealing communities in desirable locations. Current projects designed by Valley Development are in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding area. Tom also develops homesites in New Mexico.

As a life-long resident of Northern Virginia, Tom Stevens has been active in his community through his involvement with the Wolf Trap Foundation for Performing Arts, the Fairfax, Vienna and the U. S. Chambers of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the Cerebral Palsy Campaign of the National Capital Area, the BOD for the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Cancer Society and served on the board of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance.

Tom Stevens and his wife, Lindy, are natives of the Washington, D. C. area. They make their home in Vienna, Virginia.
