A Message from the President

I started Valley Development in 2003 fulfilling a life long business plan to begin a family oriented business with my brother Gil. Together, we asked Tom Stevens, a highly successful former owner of multiple real estate offices on the east coast, to be a partner in the company. Tom agreed, as he and Gil had developed over the years a strong business and personal relationship, Tom believed he could be beneficial in a development company with his vast real estate experience and many contacts throughout the region. We feel very fortunate to have Tom on the Valley Team!

Valley Development was named after the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. All of the partners are from Virginia, although I have been a Tar Heel since 1988. It was my initial desire to get back to Virginia and work in and around the “Valley” as I believed, and still do, that the development potential in this region of Virginia is very strong and largely untapped. What I didn’t realize back then is how difficult it would be to break away from the Charlotte, NC region. Over the past 18 years I have developed many business contacts in the Charlotte region to include land owners, developers, builders, and an excellent working relationship with the best civil contractors in and around Charlotte.

I began my career in 1985 as a young graduate civil engineer in Centreville, Virginia working for a multi-disciplined A&E firm.

From there, I moved to Greensboro, NC and continued in civil design working on transportation design projects for local municipalities and NCDOT. The early 1990’s found me breaking away from the design end of civil construction and focusing more on the contracting side of the business developing skills in estimating, project management, and business development.

When we incorporated Valley Development, my experience had grown to successfully completing many multi-use and complicated projects ranging from multi-million dollar superfund environmental cleanup projects, large scale transportation projects and a multitude of residential and commercial projects. My residential infrastructure experience is approaching 10,000 recorded lots.

My wife Tanya and I live in Indian Trail with our 3 children, Danielle, Molly & Matthew. I am active in our local athletic association helping develop new ball fields and as a Pop Warner football coach. I am also active on community planning committee’s concerning future growth. My hobbies include hunting, and other outdoor activities.

We hope you will consider Valley Development as your developer of choice, construction management firm, or land broker.
